SID"THE BAYOU KID" ORDOYNE
Sid “The Bayou Kid” has developed a style that is known up and down Duval Street. It’s swampy country, Gulf Coast grit, and a little bit of rock that has been shaped by bayou backroads and barroom stages. Sid landed in the Florida Keys in 2020, and his lived-in sound has become a gritty, storytelling groove that people recognize.
Sid was raised in the bayous of Cajun country in South Louisiana. One of his earliest musical influences was his neighbor, Sidney George—Louisiana and Arizona Music Hall of Fame inductee—who recorded and played with artists like Stephen Stills, Dr. John, and Humble Pie. That early exposure left a lasting imprint.
Through high school, Sid cut his teeth playing rock, Top 40, and classic country before bouncing through a handful of careers—including cooking—while continuing to chase music. In 2002, he made his first serious push as a professional musician, playing with the popular acoustic group Bumpin’ Uglies and holding down bass duties for the Top 40 band Déjà Vu. Around that time, he made his first trip to Key West while playing bass for Johnny Sansone.
Sid later moved to Oregon to play bass for Tony Coleman (B.B. King, Jamey Johnson), touring the West Coast and performing extensively around Hood River. Along the way, he shared stages and jams with artists including Jennifer Batten, Lee Oskar and Harold Brown of WAR, Bernard Purdie, and C.C. DeVille. After Coleman returned to B.B. King’s band, Sid spent time playing with Tommy Heath of Tommy Tutone.
In 2009, Sid joined Josh Garrett and the Bottomline as the house band at Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar in Nashville, performing with artists such as Big Kenny, Kenny Neal, and Tab Benoit. He returned to Louisiana in 2013, holding a Bourbon Street residency with B-St. Benny and the Bourbon Bandstand, switching from bass to guitar in 2016.
In February 2020, Sid bought a sailboat in South Carolina and set course for New Orleans—only to get “stuck” in Key West during the pandemic. There, he reunited with longtime friend Jerome Miller, forming several projects, including the duo Dogwater, which played four days a week at the Smokin’ Tuna for nearly four years and remains a Keys favorite.
Today, Sid has found his voice as a solo acoustic/electric performer, playing regularly up and down Duval Street. He also performs with side projects including 2 in the Pink (with Joey Marchiano) and a collaboration with Marjory Lee, continuing to blend his bayou roots with a road-tested sound that fits the Keys just right.
